How to Crochet a Seamless After Thought Heel Into Socks Made on the Sentro Knitting Machine
After you've cast your sock off the machine, you will use the Tunisian crochet hook to pick up stitches for the heel. Start half way up one of the sides of the heel hole.
This is our cast on row. You will ultimately end up casting on half the stitches. For my sock,, I had 38 sts around so, I was supposed to pick up 19 sts here. However, I added two "in-between" stitches in the corners for a better seam. Total 21 sts.
Next you will do a return pass by chaining 1 and then yarning over and slipping through two to the end. You should have one stitch remaining on the hook.
For the next 4 rows, we will be making the Tunisian knit stitch. To do this, you will insert the hook between the front and back loops, yarn over and pull up a loop through the two loops. You will do this to the end. You'll know you have four rows by counting the V's up the side of the heel flap
If you think you need more allowance for the heel, consider doing up to 8 rows of Tunisian knit stitch (return passes don't count as rows).
With our Tunisian hook, we will now start performing rows of decrease, until we only have 11 sts left on the hook.
Once we get down to 11 sts, we will do one more pass of regular Tunisian knit stitches and a return pass before slip stitching the row.
