My water bottle holders spark a lot of conversation on social media and locally. Now's your opportunity to make this popular project with me. Plus, because it was such a fan fave, I'll be including a bonus tutorial showing off how I made the water bottle holder I stitched for PIK's Shark Week Challenge in 2023. Grab a 4.00mm crochet hook and your favorite cotton yarn and join me on this craft adventure!

My Bottle Measurements
After updating this pattern, I recorded the approximate diameters for my various bottles. They are as follows:
21 oz ➡️ 3 inches
32oz ➡️ 3.25 - 3.5 inches
64oz ➡️ 5.5 inches
128oz ➡️ 6.3 inches
Take these into consideration or even measure your own bottle before beginning this project.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN: This pattern was originally written for a 64 oz water jug. In this current
version, I am adding base row counts for 21 oz and 32 oz bottles also.
For a 21 oz. Bottle: Follow the instructions for round 1, using dc. Proceed to increase your rounds until you have 3 rows (36 sts). Start following pattern at Round 6.
For a 32 oz. Bottle: The base for this size can be made using 3 rounds of increasing dc plus 1 round of sc OR 4 rounds of increasing hdc (48sts). Start following pattern at Round 6.
For a 64 oz. Bottle: For this size using your 4.00mm crochet hook, make 5 rounds of
increasing dc (60 sts) OR 7 rounds of increasing hdc (84 sts). Start following pattern at Round 6.
Round 1: With a magic circle, ch 2 and hdc 11 into the ring. Join the round at the top of the ch 2 with a sl st.
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc into the base of the ch 2. Make 2 hdc into each stitch in the round, join the row to the top of the ch 2 with a sl st.
Round 3: Ch 2, hdc into base of the ch 2, *1 hdc into the next st, 2 hdc into the next st] join the row to the top of the ch 2 with a sl st.
Round 4: Ch 2, hdc into the base of the ch
2. *1 hdc into the next st, 1 hdc into the next st, 2 hdc into the next st] join the row to the top of
the ch 2 with a sl st.
Round 5: Ch 2, and hdc into the base of the ch 2. *1 hdc into each of the next 3 sts, 2 hdc into the next st.] join the row to the top of the ch 2 with a sl st.
Rounds 6 - 13: Ch 1, sc into each st around, join the row to the top of the ch 1 with a sl st.
Round 14: Change color; Ch 1 and sc into the base of the ch 1. Sc 1 into each of the next 2 sts. *Make 1sc 1 row below in the next st, make 1 sc 2 rows below in the next st, make 1
sc 3 rows below in the next st, make 1 sc 4 rows below in the next st. Sc 1 into each of the next 3 sts.] Close round with a sl st.
Round 15 - 21: Ch 1 and sc into the base of the ch 1. Sc into each st around, close row with a sl st.
Round 22: Repeat Round 14.
Round 23 - 30: Repeat Rounds 6 - 14
Round 31: Change color; Repeat Round 14
Note: For the 21 oz bottle size, I did a series of 4 color changes throughout the body of this project.
For the 32 oz bottle, I made 5 different color changes.
For the 64 oz size, I made 6 different color changes.
Round 32: Ch 1, reverse sc into each stitch around. Sl st to the first st of the row and cut the yarn.
You can make the strap separately.
OR for a holder without a border do not cut the yarn...
Pull up a loop as to not lose your stitches. Count over 8 sts from your loop and place a stitch
marker. On the adjacent side, place stitch markers 8 sts apart. These will indicate where the strap will go.
Row 33 - 40: Ch 1, sc into the base of the ch 1. Sc into each of the next 7 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 41: Change color; Sc 1 into each of the next 2 sts, make 1 sc 1 row below in the next st, make 1 sc 2 rows below in the next st, make 1 sc 3 rows below in the next st, make 1 sc 4 rows below in the next st. Sc into last 2 sts.
Repeat Rows 33-41 through row 112 for a
shoulder strap.
Seam or strap to the other side of your sling where you previously placed your stitch markers.
