As I continue to enjoy my down time from YouTube and school, I've been able to play more with my new yarn spinning hobby!
I put everything on the back burner for the Christmas CDAL and now that that's over, I can shift my focus to other pressing matters.

ICYMI: I recently got into spinning my own yarn in the last few months. One of my required classes lead to a crash course in spinning and I fell head over heels with it! Since then, I've found that some of the tools are incredibly pricey, which was a problem for someone on a student budget. Desperately wanting to measure out my fiber, I stumbled across this listing on Amazon and I
couldn't be happier with my product. I was lured in by the price and the fact that it's a small business on the platform.
This niddy noddy comes in two separate pieces which means that you can easily store it later after use. It's made of a hard plastic which is also fine by me because in the event that it gets wet, it isn't ruined. I'd recommend this for people just starting out with spinning before making a long term commitment on equipment.
It didn't take long for me to receive this item in the mail and when I did, I was able to use it right away. I don't think y'all realize how excited I was to finally be measuring out my yarn. I still need to soak it but, that's an adventure for when the weather isn't trending in the single digits lol.
Now I'll be able to finish the hat I started at the end of the fall semester with the first batch. At the end of the day, I ended up with 67 yards of handspun goodness!
Now, onto the spindle I got. Again, as the semester drew to a close and I realized that I'd have to eventually return the spindle I'd learned on, I set out to buy my own.
Similarly, I needed to stick to a budget. This purchase predated the niddy noddy though.
I found a simple one on Amazon also, and honestly, I had my doubts about it. I wasn't sure that I'd be able to spin with it in the same way that I could with the other but, I was proven wrong.
Because I was totally swamped, it took a couple of weeks before I got around to playing with it. I chose this one , again, because of the affordability and also because it was made entirely of wood. This one was also a top whorl drop spindle but, the whorl is a solid wood chunk which gives the tool the perfect amount of weight. It also offers an obvious notch in the whorl for the yarn to rest in as you spin.
The spinning I've been able to do (see first image) has gone quite smoothly.
That's really all I have for today. I've had some great finds in the last couple of month and I'm hoping to get a lot of mileage from my purchases here.
I think the next thing on my agenda will be to invest in some good fiber for my spinning so, in due time I can make things with yarns that I've made myself.
