Quiet Doesn't Mean Inactive 👀

Good Day Crafties!

Every now and again, I get the itch to tear down everything in my house and reorganize like a psycho. These days-long projects have taken place in the summer of years past because that was my longest break after the semesters ended.

Now that the college era has come and gone, sometimes I find it hard to remember that I don't just have to schedule things around the seasons anymore. Old habits die hard.

Anyhow, you might recall starting with Channel Chat 154 that I mentioned wanting to ✨reimagine✨ my craft studio. WELL I DID!

A fresh space inspires more creativity in me, so I spent the entire first week of January tearing it all down. I mean that quite literally as I accidentally tipped over my table, breaking precious pottery in the process. Thankfully, it was mostly personal pieces and the reject pile that I never listed to the Handmade shop. I just had to stand there and stare at it for a moment in the face of my own ineptitude.

Freak accident aside, moving things about was a relatively smooth process. I did realize a little too late that the new wall was just 1 inch too narrow to fit my yarn shelves flush against it. So instead, I set the last one up catercorner and it still worked out beautifully. Another keen realization is that, I started my craftepreneurship in 2016. It's been nearly 10 years come April (😭) and that is a fair amount of time to accumulate stuff. I've got yarn older than my YouTube Channel in there, and lots of it!!! It took me two days to sort and store all of it again.

All the while, I was just supremely grateful that there was a season that I could just stash for the sake of my designing because Lord knows the yarn market started getting bleak and pricey. Speaking of which, anyone else realize this is the first year without the Yarnourmous Sale?! Crazy.

But I digress.

In the middle of reorganizing, I decided to head to Home Depot for a storage tote. When did they become so expensive?! The one I thought I'd need was $65. The one I actually got was $16. 😂

While there I ran across several sale items, which I was shocked to see, some of which were 18ft of firecracker lights. Each 6ft box was only $3.80, hence why I grabbed three. Many years back, I had an led string fairy light curtain in the background of my videos and I felt so cozy & whimsical whenever I turned them on. So with these, I set out to create a similar experience, even if they may not be visible during videos.

(I've been testing camera setup now that I'm in the end stages of the redesign.) Naturally, after escaping the hardware store with my goods and a new house plant, I ended up at Michael's , mainly to walk around but I ended up snaring some sweet ivy garland. 12 feet of it, in fact, because I knew it'd drape nicely in the new spot, and I was right!

Floating among the new fairy lights, I feel like I'm entering my own woodland cottage, isolated from the world. And that's exactly what I need to keep the creative juices flowing. I liked the ivy so much though, I chanced going out to the Michael's out in the suburbs (the parking lot feels like a looming Darwin award tbh) to snag more of it. I needed just a bit more length and my local location was out, as I'd nabbed the last two they had. Lastly, I wound up with a few extra florals to blend in spots that felt a little bare.

I also made practical use of what was already here, using faux flower/vine decor to hide any imperfections in my set and really tie the space together.

By the end of the 8th, I felt really good about the massive undertaking, knowing I just needed to replace some broken equipment and organize the table itself, I considered it all a job well done. A stark contrast to what had been for the last 3 years of content.

After I'd left Michael's, I stopped for a little milk tea treat. That's when I noticed the Daiso that popped up next door and just had to check it out! I love, love, love, Japanese stuff so you can imagine that I'd been in a little wonderland. I found some nifty little touches to add to the studio. Namely, a faux grass mat to sit my mannequin on, a small trash bin, and a gray table cloth for my photo station.

Daiso has a lot of other cool stuff, including yarn, that I'll have to check out when I'm not on business errands.

There's so much still in store this year and now with a clear, organized space I feel primed to tackle it all.

Thanks for reading y'all and Happy Making!
