The Big Marc-Apr...er May Catch Up! + Channel Chat 159

Hey there Crafties, long time, no see!

Or at least it feels that way. These days are running together on 2x speed and there's always something going on but, life is pretty good all things considered. I can only hope the same for you all!

The past few weeks have gone by in a blur, if it hasn't been my health, it's been work. In spite of that, I'm glad to be here with you all and share some of my other goings on! I've finished a couple of wips and made good progress on another. Also, I've returned to walking lately and it's done wonders for my head space and for my body. When you work on screens for 10+ hours a day, it's easy to forget what nature feels like. I used to walk for long periods regularly, not so much these days and it felt like a darn good time to change that.

So what's the scoop?

My grandma turned 69 in March!

So originally, this blog was supposed to happen in March, whoops! But we celebrated my grandma's 69th birthday last month and I am so blessed to have her. I'm also blessed to be able to take time out to be with my family out of both desire and necessity. For those of you who're new here, my grandmother is my best friend and is like a mother to me. A couple of years ago, got really dark when she needed to have surgery to regain her mobility. Things are better than they were back then but I'm still her full time caretaker which is a labor of love. 😅

She enjoyed her day and the smiles and laughs we share make every moment worth it.

I went on another pattern freebie side quest for Easter.

So on February 16th, I started on a grand project for Resurrection Day! It'd been brewing in my mind to do for a couple of years now and this year finally granted me the space to do it.

With this one, I'd gotten idea regarding future freebie releases. I've got to do better with posting progress pictures on them, I think, to build a little extra excitement around what I put out. With this one, I figured if I could get 50 folks to engage with it, I'd release the pattern on the blog this year. That did not pan out so I figured it's because people wouldn't have time to make it. Fair enough!

So I'll be dropping this blanket patch next year in plenty of time you crafties to knit or crochet it! This was honestly such a fun and meditative project to work on through the Lent season and I was happy that it turned out so well and on time (finished it March 30th). So keep your eyes peeled during spring 2027!

I got all my laptop peripherals set up for live streams.*

This is a big one! I'd been working on my setup since February and got everything wrapped up by the end of March. That's actually when I did my first livestream on Rumble to test everything out and I have to say, I liked most of it but there's more that I want to do to make those streams more fun for y'all!

Sometime in the not-so-distant future, I'll be writing a blog about the different tech that I use for different content. It's been about 5 years since the last one so it's about time to give an update on that!

During my stream, I got the wild idea that I should be able to use my DSLR to show y'all what I'm working on while I yap. So this past Saturday, I ordered in the stuff to make that happen, along with some other equipment because there's a fiber event I want to go to soon and I think it'd be nice to share that experience with you all too!

Catch me live, only on Rumble!
Catch me live, only on Rumble!

It always astounds me as I think back on how I started my channel with a cellphone and a $12 tripod. Had money not been an object, I'd have been a full on camera junkie. 😂

I can't tell you what I'm more excited for, the streaming or the new recording experience. Either way, I've got about 3 videos planned that'll be a little different than normal Channel Chats and I hope you'll enjoy them all the same!

Meta finally gave me channels and it feels so good to finally reach my followers!

I'm so very late to this game but, I was finally given access to this feature nearly 3 years after it's initial roll out. It just so happened to work out that I can use this now that I'm stepping back into things. So if you use IG or FB and want to catch glimpses of what's going on behind the scenes and between these blogs, consider joining one of those channels.

There are... WERE cats in my attic.*

Okay, this section is being written SO much later than the rest of it because this attic cat drama was strong.

This life is anything but boring.

One of the lovely stray cats in the neighborhood decided that our attic would be the perfect maternity ward a couple weeks ago. And don't get me wrong, I love cats in all capacities but having a ceiling full of wild flufflings isn't ideal. But wait, there's more!

Miss girl decided to abandon said flufflings and our contractor had to come get them out because they were crying out and it was making me cry. (Darn cat manipulation!!) It'd been a couple of days to be honest and they're really vocal around 5:30am so I'm more of a mess than usual.

But wait, there's more!

While he did find two up there, I still heard more whining and mewing.... friends, they're in my walls. How? magic probably. But now my weekend is to be consumed with torn up dry wall and nursing cats 😅 The remaining ones are in the wall above my studio and I just can't concentrate on a Channel Chat while they're in distress.

So maybe we'll try this again next Sunday 😅

Plus I'll have more of my equipment in by then so I'll have a little extra to yap about. Sorry it's been so long here guys, I'm trying!

Anyhoo, I'm kind of obsessed with these guys, construction drama aside, I haven't had pets in about a decade and these precious beans have my heart so full today. I won't be able to keep them but I'll definitely enjoy having them until they're stronger 🥺 I sooo want to name them!

***Pre-pub update.

The "wall kittens" were actually in my craftroom ceiling y'all. Video update incoming.

That's about it for this update!

Join me on the YouTube or Rumble at 11:00 CST on May 17th for Channel Chat 159!

I hope you enjoyed this read and have a very blessed week!

Happy Making!
