Styling the Watching Me Sweater - A design in the wild

Hello Crafties!

Let's revisit last fall's hit design, the Watching Me Sweater knitting pattern that I released on

October 17th, 2025. Originally, I was going to write and drop this blog on October 31st last year but, I'd been dropping content about it everywhere. And I personally felt saturated by it. Whoops!

Because of the mid-October drop, this knitting pattern didn't really get her true day in the sun and that's why I'm bringing it back up now. It's the end of August so if one started knitting this now, you could finish it in time to enjoy it in October.

Fun Fact: I almost named this the "Beetlejuice Harlequin Stripped Sweater" but it didn't roll off the tongue all that well. Plus I don't actually participate in Halloween so the name seemed a little antithetical, ya know? I do, however, love the song Somebody's Watching Me by Rockwell and hear it whenever I look at this design.

So, let's recap a little!

What inspired the Watching Me Stripped Sweater Knitting Pattern?

A good friend of mine had this sweater back in college that I yearned for. It spoke to me every time she wore it and I determined, like any good craftswoman, that I could make my own. I'd even told her that I would at some point and not to be surprised. She laughed and though it took me a few years to get around to it (😭), I finally did it!

And like a typical woman, I didn't want to run around in the exact replica so I'd decided to play opposites on the asymmetry and make the purple side more dominant. That inspired me to take it a step further to include entrelac in the design. Also over the course of last year, I'd been completing the America 250 Kimono, which as we know by now is all entrelac. Being a glutton for punishment, I cast on yet another pattern (the Watching Me Sweater) involving the interwoven stitching.

How did release go?

For the past few years, I've adopted a system of releasing new designs to my patrons first. It's quicker and more efficient for me with my chaotic work schedule, and it also gives members first dibs on my creative chaos. Usually this gives my patrons early access for up to a year before any public releases and gives me time to format pattern files and/or record the accompanying videos.

I dropped this pattern for Hey Craftepreneur! on October 17th, 2025.

It was a relative hit among my audiences on social media. But again, I think the late release during the holiday season hindered the design a bit. That was okay though because, I was able to include the pattern in my book of designs, along with a video tutorial that December.

The public PDF release didn't hit the Handmade Shop until about a week or two ago.

You read that right! I penned and self-published a pattern book last year!

Styling the Watching Me Sweater

I wish that there was more fanfare to give you here, dear reader, but alas...

When it comes to modelling my brighter designs, I favor simplicity. I mean, did you see the TikTok up there?

The weather had finally broken but it was still decent enough out there for leggings so that's what I sported. Only after the fact did I remember that I had leather ones laying about somewhere but I supposed I could try that idea out this year.😂

Anyhoo, I matched those black leggings with a simple spaghetti strap camisole beneath. Funny enough, I'd planned on making some matching socks but decided against it at the last minute.

Edgy patterns need edgy shoes. I don't make the rules. I just happened to still have the Milwaukee Leather Motorcycle Riding Boots I got for my 21st birthday! They have a whole personality of their own but are low-key enough to go with the fit.

As you can see, the sweater stands out enough on its own. So the only accessory I decided to put with this were my favorite eyeglass chains.

See? There's no real fanfare to styling the Watching Me sweater but I will say this:

It had been a long time since I'd gotten dressed up for an outing and I felt absolutely stunning in my new sweater. I think it'll remain as a favorite in my wardrobe for years to come.
